Brasília was not formed by chance. It was created to be the country's capital. Here is a transcript from the Belcher report (1955): "Brasil must be praised for the fact of having been the first nation in history to base the site selection of its capital city in economic and scientific values, as well as in the climate and beauty conditions".

It was declared a Historic Patrimony of Mankind by Unesco in 1987.

It stands out, all over the world, for the application of the principles of the Letter of Athens (1943), integrated to a strategy of national development and self-affirmation. First modern city to be recognized globally as a Mankind Patrimony. Fruit of a thought that marked a historical period, the so called modern period in architecture.

The idea of monumentality prevails in the central body of the urban site, traced by Lúcio Costa, with architecture by Oscar Niemeyer, becoming a space organization example. Also stand out works of artists like Bruno Giorgi, Alfredo Ceschiatti, Athos Bulcão, Marienne Peretti, Volpi, Di Cavalcante, Victor Brecheret and Burle Marx that integrate to architecture in symbiosis.

The stage of political manifestations, rock and cinema festivals, Brasília is a cosmopolitan city with 90 embassies, numerous restaurants and a huge center for varied events.
